Types of Vision Therapy
The goal of vision therapy is the same regardless of what the patient’s visual issues are. Some patients simply did not develop certain visual skills, while others suffered a brain injury. We can usually estimate how long the therapy will take, although it may change based on the patients issues & severity.
Vision Therapy Level 1 (VT 1)
VT 1 is planned for 4 to 7 months. This treatment covers binocular vision problems such as convergence insufficiency, poor visual acuity, poor peripheral vision, poor depth perception and tracking problems.
Vision Therapy Level 2 (VT 2)
VT 2 is planned for 6 to 9 months. It includes all the therapy of VT 1 but adds extra therapy and time to normalize visual perceptual delays.
Vision Therapy Level 3 (VT 3)
VT 3 is planned for 9 to 12 months. This is therapy for patients who cannot use their eyes together. They have an eye that turns in or out. In some patients this is only when they look far away or near but for some it is constant. It may also have resulted in poor vision (lazy eye / amblyopia) in the turning eye.
Syntonics
Syntonics, or light therapy is a part of all the above programs. It is the use of visible light frequencies through the eyes to improve peripheral vision, to enhance visual attention and the ability to comprehend what we see.
