Visual Learning Center provides a range of services for patients with functional visual problems. Most of our patients hear about us from friends or family members. We are very proud of the results we have helped our patients achieve. Functional visual problems are rarely detectable until they understood at a deeper level. We have very simple and precise ways of measuring these problems so that they are easily understood.

Here Are 6 Things You Need To Know About Vision Therapy

There are some simple things I would want everyone to know about vision therapy. You may be able to change a person’s life in an incredible way by making them aware of this. Thank you for taking the time to view this information.

1. A Common Problem

You most likely know many people with these problems. If you listen to the common symptoms you will think of several people that can benefit from vision therapy. Convergence insufficiency effects 5-10% of the population. Tracking problems effect 10% on the population, and and have a profound effect on reading and learning.

2. Convergence Insufficiency

Convergence insufficiency is the inability to bring your eyes together at a near point. This can cause double vision, slow reading rate, fatigue, and low comprehension. The standard of care for CI patients is vision therapy (CITT, Scheiman 2005).

3. Eye Tracking

Poor eye tracking is a common problem, and is a major cause for students who struggle with no explanation. Studies have shown 90% of poor readers suffer from this condition. This would be a young student who struggles with reading and loses there place or moves their head to read. Tracking problems often result in slow homework speed, poor timed test scores and avoiding near work.

4. Symptoms

Many patients with functional visual problems show outward signs of stress. Especially when doing near work. These symptoms can be as mild as avoiding near work to severe headaches.

5. Peripheral Vision

Many people do not use their peripheral vision in an optimal way. This is a largely subconscious visual function, that assists us in balance and movement. There are simple ways to test for this common dysfunction.

6. Easy To Test For

Testing for these problems is quick and reliable. The solutions require time and effort but all patients improve in some way and most in profound ways. Screening tests for these problems take only minutes.
